Celebration of Van Mahotsav 20 August 2019

Trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance but their depleting number has become a point of concern. To incite awareness and instill a personal connect between students and nature,’Vanmahotsav week from 1st to 5th July was planned for the junior section students of Surendranath Centenary School. The best of the thought provoking slogans by the students of IV & V were presented in the assembly which flared up the green ecological sense among the students .In an attempt to give a green touch, students of I & II gifted saplings to each other .Classes III to V went on a plantation drive with a number of medicinal ,flowering and ornamental plants. Students also tagged the green potted plants with their names .Students vowed to nurture the planted saplings and conserve trees in their small possible ways. Group song ‘Plant more trees’ enthralled the audience. Vanmahotsav was an endeavour to set alight the values of social responsibility in the students towards safeguarding Mother Nature. 

The Principal Mrs.Samita Sinha said that such celebrations encourages the students to preserve trees and plays a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance .She added that it also helps to strengthen the bond between the plants and the humans. The whole programme sensitized the students about their role in conserving the trees.

Celebration of Van Mahotsav 07 July 2020

Vanmahotsav, a week long festival of tree plantation is organised every year in the first week of July across India, when millions of trees are planted. In an earnest attempt to lend a green touch to the environment and sensitise the students about their role in conserving it, Surendranath Centenary school celebrated Vanmahotsav week from the 1st of July to the 7th of July'20. The celebration was an ideal opportunity to instil the value of social responsibility in the students towards safeguarding trees. The focus of the Celebration was towards forming a personal connection between the students and trees through a process of experience, reflection and creation, carried out through various activities. 

Classes UKG to II students took selfies with plants and made collages with leaves of different colours and shapes, whereas students of classes III to V prepared colourful posters and wrote slogans. They also did an activity of spotting medicinal and ornamental plants. Not only that, they gifted plant saplings to their friends, relatives and neighbours. A group of students enacted a skit with siblings and friends in their own apartment on “Protection of trees”.

Class VI students composed a beautiful song and uploaded the video. The students of class VII participated in slogan writing, spreading a message to create a green planet. Class VIII students prepared posters on the topic “Green Earth, clean Earth”. Each poster had a unique story to tell. IX and X students composed poems and wrote articles on the topic “Save the trees, the trees will save you!” They also planted herbal plants in their kitchen gardens. It was an educative and informative week for the students of Surendranath. 

On this occasion, the Principal Mrs. Samita Sinha quoted “These events help spreading awareness about the importance of conserving our environment. It also helps in strengthening the bond between humans and nature.”
